PSHE & RSE

Choose a subject:

PSHE

At Royal Park, we believe Personal, Social, Health and Economics education (PSHE) is the foundation of a child’s learning.

It helps give children the skills and understanding they need to be morally good, healthy and independent citizens. In addition, we provide our children the opportunity to learn about their rights and understand how their actions affect others by offering a Rights Respecting ethos; which encompasses experience of diversity and our changing society.  PSHE is also integrated throughout our bespoke curriculum. Our children are encouraged to develop their self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community

RSE

Royal Park Primary Academy takes its responsibility to provide relevant, effective and responsible relationship and sex education (RSE) to all its children very seriously.

The school wants parents and children to feel assured that sex education will be delivered at a level appropriate to both the age and development of the children, and safe to voice opinions and concerns relating to it.

The Jigsaw Curriculum

Jigsaw, is the mindful approach to PSHE/HWB, it brings together Personal, Social, Health Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning.

Teaching strategies are varied and are mindful of preferred learning styles and the need for differentiation. Jigsaw is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time. Our pupils recieve 1 lesson per week, every half term.

Jigsaw is sequential, the six puzzles (units) starting with 'Being Me in My World' (BM) at the beginning of the school year and working through to the end of the year:

  1. BM (Being Me in My World)
'Who am I and how do I fit?'

  2. CD (Celebrating Difference)
Respect for similarity and difference. Anti-bullying and being unique

  3. DG (Dreams and Goals)
Aspirations, how to achieve goals and understanding the emotions that go with this

  4. HM (Healthy Me)
Being and keeping safe and healthy

  5. RL (Relationships)
    Building positive, healthy relationships

  6. CM (Changing Me)
    Coping positively with change

The Jigsaw Friends are integral to Jigsaw learning. They act as distancing tools to keep learning about sensitive issues safe e.g. Jigsaw Jino has a problem in the playground and the children help Jino find a solution.

The Friends also act as Talking Objects in the Jigsaw Circle, when I am holding Jigsaw Jack it is my turn to talk and be listed to if I choose to.
